Mayor Patricia Randall  endorses Matt Longjohn in Congressional Primary

Portage, MI- Dr. Matt Longjohn, a physician and the former National Health Officer for the YMCA, today announced that Portage Mayor Patricia Randall has endorsed his campaign for Congress in the Democratic primary.  

“Today, I am endorsing a longtime friend, Matt Longjohn, in his bid to win the Democratic primary for the 6th District Congressional seat.  Matt was born and raised in the Portage community to a family with a long-standing history of serving others. Matt is a disciplined, goal-oriented and engaged leader. As a medical doctor and national health leader, he was totally committed to improving the health and well-being of his patients and tens of millions of people across the U.S. who needed help to live their healthiest possible lives. I know he will continue this dedication in Washington, as he advocates for the people of Southwest Michigan.” said, Mayor Randall.

About Matt Longjohn

Dr. Longjohn is a fifth-generation Michigander who has spent his career in working to improve the health care of all Americans. Most recently, Longjohn served as the National Health Officer for the YMCA, one of the nation’s oldest and largest charities. He was the first physician leader in the Y’s 170-year history and ran community health programs to improve health, reduce health care costs and create jobs. He and his team were identified as being among the top 100 innovators in health care in the U.S in 2016 and supported local community health workers in Augusta, Benton Harbor, St. Joseph, Kalamazoo, and more than 250 cities across the nation, positively impacting 73 million people. He currently lives in Portage with his wife Valerie Miller and their younger son Max.  Their older son Till is serving in the U.S. Air Force
